By Train
From Valencia:
- Several regional trains from Valencia (Nord / Joaquín Sorolla) continue past Castellón de la Plana and have a stop in Benicasim.
- Other trains, however, end in Castellón de la Plana as their final stop. If you take one of these, you will need to:
- Wait for a connecting regional train from Castellón to Benicasim (about 10 minutes), or
- Take a bus from Castellón to Benicasim.
- Total travel time from Valencia to the area is typically 45–60 minutes, depending on the train.
From Madrid:
Direct tickets to Castellón de la Plana are available, but the type of train affects your journey:
- High-speed trains (Renfe AVE/Avlo, Ouigo, Iryo):
- Some may require a transfer in Valencia to continue to Castellón, depending on the train, operator, or sometimes due to works.
- Travel time: approximately 3h – 3h 30m, including the transfer.
- Normal/slow trains (Regional or Intercity):
- Usually go directly from Madrid to Castellón de la Plana without the need to change in Valencia.
- Travel time: approximately 4h 15m – 4h 30m.
From Barcelona:
The most direct option is a regional train from Barcelona Sants to Benicasim (or Castellón de la Plana, depending on the schedule).
- Travel time: approximately 3–3.5 hours.
- This route does not require high-speed connections or transfers — the train goes directly along the coast.

By Car
If you rent a car and plan to drive, it’s very easy to get around. The area has modern highways, everything is well signposted, and driving is straightforward.
- From Barcelona or Madrid, some routes may include toll roads.
- From Valencia to Castellón, there are no tolls.
Things to do
Enjoying Benicasim Beaches:
Benicasim boasts approximately 7 km of coastline with several beaches to enjoy. The Hotel Intelier Orange is conveniently located near Heliópolis Beach, making it easy to walk down and relax by the sea. During the summer months, many of the beaches have small beach bars, called chiringuitos, where you can enjoy drinks, snacks, or tapas.
Very close to the hotel, we recommend Playa Chica, a restaurant perfect for a casual meal by the sea.
Exploring Benicasim town
Benicasim has a charming town center that is full of life in the summer, with street cafés, restaurants, and a lively atmosphere perfect for an evening stroll or casual dinner.
We recommend “Madre Superiora” for what we consider the best coffee in town!
Activities in Benicasim:
Benicasim is not only about its beaches — the surrounding nature offers plenty of opportunities for outdoor activities. One of the most popular options is the Vía Verde Benicàssim–Oropesa, a scenic cycling and walking route that runs along old railway tracks.
For those who enjoy hiking, the Desierto de las Palmas Natural Park provides beautiful trails through mountains, forests, and cliffs. You can choose routes of varying difficulty, from short walks to longer hikes, all offering stunning views of the coastline and surrounding landscape.
If you prefer a more relaxed visit, you can also drive up to several viewpoints in the mountains where you can see all of Benicàssim from above — a perfect spot for photos and to take in the scenery.
For families or anyone looking for a fun day out, the Aquarama water park is conveniently close to the hotel, offering slides, pools, and activities suitable for all ages.
Discover Castellón de la plana
Castellón de la Plana is the capital of the province and offers a relaxed, walkable city center. The historic old town is home to landmarks such as the Concatedral de Santa María and the El Fadrí bell tower, an iconic symbol of the city. Visitors can climb to the top of El Fadrí in the mornings, until 1:00 pm, enjoying panoramic views over the city.
The old town is filled with cafés, bakeries, and local shops, and it’s especially pleasant for a quiet stroll. Nearby, the Central Market, which is open only in the mornings, offers fresh produce, local specialties, and a lively atmosphere.
A bit further out, the Grao de Castellón connects the city to the port and the beach, with seafood restaurants and a pleasant seaside promenade.
Castellón Beaches
Just a few kilometres from the centre of Castellón de la Plana lies its maritime district of El Grau, home to several broad, sandy beaches.
One of the most notable is Playa del Gurugú, a wide stretch of sand, around 1 km long, backed by a promenade and summer beach bars (chiringuitos).
What makes this coastline unique is that just behind the sand sits the Aeroclub de Castelló, where adventurous visitors can take part in activities like skydiving.
Daytrips
Peñiscola
About an hour north along the coast, Peñíscola is one of the most picturesque towns in the region. Its old town sits on a rocky peninsula crowned by a medieval castle overlooking the sea. The narrow whitewashed streets, viewpoints, and long sandy beaches make it ideal for a relaxed day out.
Morella
Located inland and surrounded by mountains, Morella is a dramatic walled town perched on a hilltop. Its medieval streets, stone houses, and impressive castle give it a completely different atmosphere from the coast. It’s perfect if you want a more historic and scenic outing.
Villafamés
Villafamés is a peaceful hilltop village known for its charming stone houses, winding narrow streets, and beautiful panoramic views. It’s a lovely place for a relaxed stroll, exploring its historic old quarter, and enjoying the quiet atmosphere of the surrounding countryside.
Montanejos
In the mountains of the Alto Mijares region, Montanejos is famous for its natural pools and thermal river waters with a constant mild temperature year-round. It’s a fantastic option for swimming, hiking, or simply spending time in nature.
Villarreal Stadium
Football fans may enjoy visiting the Estadio de la Cerámica in Villarreal. The stadium offers tours (depending on the season and match schedule), and even just walking around the area is fun for fans of Spanish football.
Port Aventura
PortAventura World is one of Spain’s largest theme parks and is located in the province of Tarragona, about two hours north of Castellón. It’s a great option for families or thrill-seekers, with roller coasters, themed areas, shows, and an attached water park.
Valencia
Valencia, the largest city near Castellón, offers a mix of historic charm and modern architecture. You can explore its old town, visit the famous City of Arts and Sciences, walk or cycle through the Turia Gardens, or enjoy its long urban beaches. It’s an easy and versatile day trip with plenty of cultural spots, dining options, and lively neighborhoods to discover.
